Corey Adamson Named NISL Coach of the Year
Memphis, Tennessee (May 16, 2022) – Memphis Americans Head Coach Corey Adamson has garnered the National Indoor Soccer League’s first Coach of the Year honor for both the NISL Men’s and Women‘s division, the league announced today.
Adamson guided the Memphis women’s squad to a 15-2-2 record in the regular season on their way to winning the NISL 2021-22 Women’s Championship. Adamson’s men’s team went 12-6-1 in the regular season and made it to the championship game before falling 5-3 to Fayetteville in the final.
In addition to a successful season at the helm of both Memphis teams, Adamson turned in a superb year as a player, finishing second among male players in the league in points (36), third in goals (14), first in assists (22) and tied for first in points per game average (2.3).
The 2021-22 season was Adamson’s tenth as a professional indoor soccer player. His 2012-13 rookie season with the Las Vegas Legends (PASL) was shortened to one game due to injury, but Adamson was not deterred. He bounced back in 2013 to become the first player signed by the then-expansion St. Louis Ambush (MISL/MASL), making the team at open tryouts. He has also played with the Milwaukee Wave (MASL), Cedar Rapids Rampage (MASL) and Orlando SeaWolves (MASL). During his time in St. Louis, Adamson became a fan favorite with the Ambush and was also a two-sport pro who spent time as a kicker for the St. Louis Attack, River City Raiders, and the St/ Louis Bandits arena football clubs.
To say it’s been an eventful year for Adamson would be an understatement. He completed his first full season as Head Coach in early April, then he and his wife Melissa welcomed their first child, Carter, into the world three weeks later and now Corey has been named the NISL’s Coach of the Year. “It’s been such a rollercoaster of a year for me. I’ve had so many blessings and so many accomplishments. Still processing the whole thing.” Adamson said, “While I am honored that it is my name attached to the Coach of the Year title, the award truly belongs to the players. Without the commitment, support, hard work, and sacrifice of the players, coaches are absolutely nothing. I’m more grateful and fortunate to have those players in my locker room.”
