Crusaders Announce Wilbert Arroyo as Assistant and Goalkeeper Coach

Orlando, FL – The Central Florida Crusaders have announced the appointment of Wilbert Arroyo to the role of assistant coach and goalkeeper coach.

“I am so happy to add Wilbert to our staff,” GM and Head Coach Tom Traxler said, “Not only is he a very good and experienced goalkeeper coach, but much of his experience came from the indoor game. He'll be able to bring that indoor coaching experience to the rest of the team and the more experience you have playing and coaching indoor, the better.”

A native of San Jose, Costa Rica, Arroyo has been around soccer all his life. After attending and playing collegiate soccer at St. Thomas University and Trinity University from 1995-97, he played in goal for the USISL's Miami Tango before heading to the U.S. Navy. There, he played for the All-Navy Soccer Team and All-Armed Forces soccer team for 3 years, representing the U.S in international tournaments in Canada, Germany, and Croatia.

Following his playing days, the former goalkeeper turned to coaching, gaining experience with Boca Juniors Florida and FC Barcelona Orlando.

Most recently, Arroyo has been serving as assistant and goalkeeper coach for the Florida Tropics SC of the MASL for the past four years, winning three regular season championships with the Lakeland-based indoor team.

"I have been wanting to get back into indoor soccer," Arroyo said, "I've done it since 2006 in the MASL, so I'm happy to get the opportunity to join the Crusaders. It's my hometown here in Orlando, so it makes sense for me to get back in and contribute and be part of this organization."
