Tampa Bay Strikers Announce Martin Gramatica as Head Coach

TAMPA, FL –At a press conference this afternoon held at Yuengling Center, the National Indoor Soccer League(NISL) officially announced a head coach for the new expansion team, Tampa Bay Strikers.  Martin Gramatica was introduced as the team's first head coach in team history.

When we started the coaching search there were several qualities we were looking for in our candidates in addition to soccer experience. Some of those were passion, leadership, and a proven winner plus someone committed to the Tampa Bay Community.  We feel Martin has all of those characteristics and more." said Strikers Co-Owner Andrew Haines.

"I cannot be more excited to bring my two passions together soccer and the Tampa Bay community", said Strikers Head Coach Martin Gramatica.

ABOUT MARTIN GRAMATICA, HEAD COACH OF TAMPA BAY STRIKERS:

Martin was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and moved to the United States at the age of nine. He grew up playing soccer and did not begin to play organized football until he was a senior in high school. He played college football for Kansas State University and was recognized twice as a Consensus All-American. He won the Lou Groza Award in 1997, which honors the nation’s top kicker. He still holds the NCAA record with a 65-yard field goal without the use of a tee. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He was selected to the Pro Bowl and  named All Pro in 2001. His greatest professional achievement was winning the 2002 Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 

After  retiring  from  professional  football,  Gramatica  started  Gramatica  SIPS  and  the  Gramatica  Family Foundation with a mission of building homes for combat wounded veterans. Today, Martin continues his involvement with  the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as  the color analyst for the Buccaneer Spanish Radio. He serves as VP  of Business Development for Life Guard Imaging, which changes  and saves lives through early detection of heart disease and cancers.

Martin’s passion has always been soccer. For the last 15 years, Martin has had an extensive impact on youth development in the area. He is enthusiastic about being a part of bringing professional indoor soccer to the Tampa Bay community.

ABOUT NATIONAL INDOOR SOCCER LEAGUE (NISL):

The National Indoor Soccer League was founded in January 2021 by a group of seasoned sports team/league owners with over 50 years of ownership experience. The league features both a Men's & Women's Division, competing in double header game days over a 20-game regular season that takes place between the months of December and April. Current teams include Central FL Crusaders (Orlando), Columbus Rapids (Georgia), Fayetteville Fury, Memphis Americans, Rome Gladiators (Georgia), and Tampa Bay Strikers.

The NISL is committed to promoting and supporting our member teams, while providing an avenue for players, coaches, and front office staff to develop their skills and gain exposure for opportunities at higher levels, all while providing high-quality, affordable entertainment in the communities we serve.
